Raptor® SDX Reviews

Raptor SDX is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hustler Raptor SDX. I have the 2019 Hustler rapter SDX 54 inch. This machine is well worth the money. It is built sturdy, it's fast( 7-7.5mph max speed), has a comfortable seat, and has very smooth steering controls. I also love the big front and rear tires. This would be a great mower for a homeowner with a large lawn, but would also be great for a lawn company just starting out. This mower can go through thick grass and not bog down. It can also leave some decent stripes. The only downfall that I have found so far is the deck height adjustments. They are letters (A,B,C, etc) instead of heights( 4.5,4.25,4,etc.). Overall, I highly suggest this machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repair complaint My mower has less than 200 hrs on it and I found out the unDer carriage is defective and subject to breakage. I then find out they will not repair or provide parts to repair because it is past warranty. This part was defective from assembly and should be replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Raptor SDX... Jurassic can! Financed mine yesterday and picked it up this morning after the dealership assemble the mower (was still in the crate). After getting home and test driving it to get used to the zero-turn, i finally unleashed rampage on my 1+ acre of land. In what would take me about 2hrs on my previous lawn tractor, I manage to get everything done (besides weedeating) in 7/10th of an hour. The cut was gorgeous and even, the speed was remarkable (also note that since i'm new to it, i only cut at half power), and the power of the kawasaki engine paired with the big bite tires, i manage to get myself out from soft terrain with ease and any worries. As for now, that is all i compiled. Still very excited just from that cutting spree and about to go back outside and drive it around to be more adapted to the zero-turn and hone in my driving skills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hustler One! Leaves Zero!!! I bought my 54” Radptor SDX with the 23Hp Kawasaki on it almost 4 weeks ago. I know December of all times was a weird time to buy it but, after getting a leaf cleaning estimate it was time. My dealer knew I was interested in the copperhead mulching blades so they swapped them for the stock blades. I managed to use it for 2.9 hours cleaning up the leaves. It pulverized piles that I had stacked 11” deep. Our yard now looks great even after the snow has cleared. The two main negatives I heard were about the blade height plate being in letters (not numbers) and the spindle/belt cover plates collecting debris. I fixed both of these so you now can see the height in numbers and you don’t need a wrench to remove the deck covers anymore. I bought this machine to save time and I already know it will. I’m just waiting more time before I review it more. I compared other ZT mowers and figured I’d get the best bang for a buck with the Hustler. Hopefully I don’t need the extended warranty and if I do my guys at Wando Power Equipment will take care of it. I heard about bolts falling off and hopefully all that is nonsense and partially Lowes fault? Hopefully this will be my best first zero turn but, the summer will tell. I wanted the Fastrack SDX but, my wallet settled on the Raptor 54 SDX. I compared many reviews and models but, I wound up with this. Hopefully it was a wise decision but, time/hours will tell.

Do you offer rear deck roller attachments? Before the SDX I was mowing with a 79' Cub 149 and it would roll over any hills without scalping. The SDX I love but it scalps uneven terrain very easily.

Asked by: Ant16
Hi Jersey! I am sorry, we do not offer a roller attachment for our deck. The best solution would be to lift your deck up one increment.

Bought the Raptor SDX 5 months ago and runs great on my 3 acres (hills and flat areas). I wish they had a side bagger attachment though for minimal leaf pick up, easy on and off

Asked by: JMcCabe

I live in the counrty. My yard has hills and some rough or bumpy areas. Would this mower hold up?

Asked by: Jodi
The Raptor SDX will do fine on rough and bumpy yards. However, for you own safety and comfort, you may want to mow at less than maximum speed over the rough parts of your lawn. We also sell flex forks that can add comfort to your ride. They are like shock absorbers for your mower.

Do the 2019 Raptor SDX and FasTrak use the same decks?

Asked by: Lehmtl02
The side disharge decks are the same. However, the Fastrak offers a Rear-discharge option that is different from the SDX.
Answered by: HT Customer Service
Date published: 2019-03-29

Why does the 2019 Raptor SDX have a speed of 7mph, but the FasTrak has 8mph? Both look to have same engine, and ZT3100 transmission. Are there different "types" of ZT3100 transmissions that have different speeds?

Asked by: Lehmtl02
The transmissions are the same. The Fastrak specifies that it can go "up to 8 mph" and that is because we offer a 27hp Kohler engine on the Fastrak. That one will go up to 8mph. The smaller engines offered on the Fastrak are the exact same ones offered on the SDX and therefore, will only go up to 7mph.

Will this mower be available in 2018 ? Will lowes carry this mower again?

Asked by: Jackie 23
Hi Jackie 23, Unfortunately, the SDX is no longer offered through Lowe’s. However, you may be able to locate one through our Independent Dealer Network. The following link can help you find a local dealership in your area: As an alternative, the 2018 Raptor SD that is now offered through Lowe’s has all of the same features as the SDX, with the exception of the open deck design.
