Raptor® Flip-Up Reviews

Raptor Flip-Up is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Happy Bought the "Flip Up" model 2 years ago and have had MULTIPLE issues with the belt coming off. Within the first two months, the mower was incapacitated for 70% of the time. Hustler finally sent a "belt guard" to attempt to remedy the issue and I admit that it has helped, but it's not perfect. The belt still comes off, just not as often. The dealer I have bought it from is slow to take care of the repairs and always has excuses for not getting it repaired in a timely fashion. I plan to contact Hustler to find another certified repair location, but I am actually hoping that Hustler will admit that the original design is flawed and that they will offer to replace it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great buy While expensive for a personal use mower residentially, it has really helped keep my lawn in good shape. I no long dread cutting the lawn and so it happens more frequently. More frequent cutting prevents grass clumps and thatch build up thus promoting a healthier lawn. Two issues: 1- the use timer runs even while the engine is not on. So if you leave the key in the ‘on’ position. The time will continue to run and result in an inaccurate gauge of use 2 - I’m unable to use several deck heights because the deck is shifted too far over to use the drop pin. Contacted the dealer and they said they will correct the issue but will not cover the transportation of the mower so haven’t been able to get the mower there to fix yet

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New Raptor Flip-Up keeps breaking belts. 3 so far. I've had this Raptor Flip-up one year and I'm about to replace the belt for the third time. I've checked the pulleys for damage as well as bad bearings but they all seem fine. I can't figure out what is causing these belts to break. Other than this problem the mower is great. These belts are very expensive so after 3 belts I'm into a lot of money. Other than belts the only problem I see is they did not put a primer down before painting the mower and the paint starting chipping after only two months. I guess I'll have to have it repainted soon to keep it from rusting. I always keep the mower inside a building when not using and I try to keep it clean but this paint chipping makes it look years older than it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very well made product I purchased this mower specifically for the ability to flip the deck up to easily clean without removing it or crawling under it. For this feature it gets an A+ ! The seat itself is comfortable, and I like the automatic choke feature and fuel gauge. I really like the fact that it is made out of heavier gauge steel than most mowers in this class. As far as negatives ....it rides very rough, and the fact that the steering levers do not return to neutral automatically is still taking some getting used to. Because of the flip-up capability....there is a lot of loud rattling due to all the linkages involved. Overall I like the mower....but would really like it more if there was some type of suspension built in somewhere without having to pay out extra money for it.

I have just purchased a 48 Raptor Flip-up and I am looking for the correct part number for the Light Kit and the Engine Guard. I have not been able to find it on either Hustlers Web site or many other retailers sites.

Asked by: Jake2540
Hi Jake. The Engine Guard it is 121696 and the Light kit is 121505. Please note that the engine Guard will not work if a 2 Bag Cather is installed.

Can you store it with the deck flipped?

Asked by: Peter
Hi Peter. We do not recommend storing with the deck flipped. This could cause issues with the belts. Thank you for asking.

I have a hill about 30 degrees incline. Could I run a ZTR on it as long I mow up and down?

Asked by: Donsom52
Slopes are a major factor in loss-of-control and tip-over accidents, which can result in severe injury or death. All slopes require extra caution. If you cannot back the mower up the slope or if you feel uneasy on the slope; do not mow it. REMINDER: Only operate on slopes of 15 degrees or less.

how fast does it go cutting grass?? will it move and run if the belt breaks???

Asked by: james t.
The mower will not move and run if the DRIVE belt breaks. The deck belt runs the blades, so the mower will not cut. Please keep in mind that all speeds are approx. and mowing a flat smooth terrain. The flip up will drive at speeds up to 7mhp.
